ETHICS
Ethics is a system of moral
principles. The
field of ethics involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of
right and wrong behaviour. They are the standards which govern the life of a
person. Ethics is concerned with what is good for individuals and society and
is also described as moral philosophy.
The term is derived from the Greek word “ethos” which can mean custom, habit, character or
disposition.
Ethics is concerned with other people's interests, with the interests of
society, with God's interests, with "ultimate goods". So, when a person 'thinks ethically' they are
giving at least some thought to something beyond themselves. Some ethical
principles are -
- Truthfulness
- Honesty
- Loyalty
- Respect
- Fairness
- Integrity
- Keeping one’s promises
- Caring
- Obedience to law
- Excellence
- Leadership
- Morale – degree of positivity or optimism
- Accountability - responsibility
towards someone or something.
CODE OF ETHICS
A code of ethics is a set of principles and rules used by companies, professional organizations and individuals to govern their decision making in choosing between right and wrong.
It is
generally believed that Ethics come from –
· God and religion
· Human conscience and intuition
· the example of good human beings
· a desire for the best for people in
each unique situation (to arise as The Best)
· a rational moral cost-benefit
analysis of actions and their effects (morally and economically wealthy).
